Family Care Program at GreeneStone
GreeneStone health care professionals believe that families and loved ones are crucial to clients’ on-going success in their recovery. Relationships are often impacted and this is the time that families and loved ones would benefit by taking a closer look at themselves and the dynamics in relationships while loved ones are in treatment. Feelings of anger, disappointment, hurt, abandonment, sadness, blame, frustration etc., are all common to those who live with those struggling with addiction and mental health.
Upon the completion of the residential treatment program, clients will need to integrate back to their daily lives and relationships. GreeneStone strongly encourages family members and loved ones to engage in any of the family care components to ensure a healthier re-integration. GreeneStone offers family education, consultation, group therapy, and family counselling.
Family visits are important and allow the resident and family to begin the process of improving their communication and healing relationships.
Visits home prior to discharge provide the resident with an opportunity to practice skills they have learned and allow the family to see progress and prepare for the transition.
GreeneStone recognizes the importance of family support from members and loved ones to ensure a healthier road to recovery.
GreeneStone provides an education session that is held on Sundays at the treatment facility. This session is offered to all family members and loved ones who wish to gain a better understanding of addictions. It is important that family members and loved ones gain the support they require during the time that their family member or friend is in treatment. When a family member or friend enters into treatment and is absent from their day to day interactions, it gives both the one in treatment and the ones not in treatment to explore what this may mean moving forward. It is important to prepare and evaluate oneself before leaving treatment to gauge if more time is needed or if they are ready to integrate back into day to day tasks, relationships and community. We know that if one is not mentally stable or ready to integrate back into society it could lead to further strained relationships, unhealthy dynamics and ultimately relapse.
GreeneStone provides an opportunity for families to participate in family sessions with a counsellor as well as group sessions with other families who are experiencing the same challenges.
Role of the Family and Support Network
We provide classes and counseling sessions for families to educate them about the disease and develop an understanding of what the needs are of those who will be returning home.
By creating an informed support system, the prospects are enhanced that the resident will not revert to his or her earlier habits. This also allows the person’s support network to have increased confidence in their ability to participate in the recovery efforts in a helpful and healthy way.
