WITHDRAWAL MANAGEMENT

Detoxification and the associated withdrawal symptoms are one of the biggest stumbling blocks for many individuals who struggle with drug or alcohol addiction. Formal detox programs, like the one offered by GreeneStone, are very helpful to individuals who are battling addiction as it ensures their safety and comfort during the withdrawal process. From the very beginning of an individual’s treatment, we are focused on their safety and well-being and that starts with medically-supervised detox.

Nursing team requires to take basic tests such as blood work, blood pressure, urinary sample and breathalyzer. Nurses will also monitor CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment) which scales for alcoholism to ensure appropriate medication dosing for individuals going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms. For anyone suffering from Opiate withdrawal, nursing will monitor COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) which monitors the severity of withdrawal symptoms and helps decide the next step in opiate detox and treatment.

Our Medical Detox has 24×7 nurses who are there for each Client while going through any type of withdrawal symptoms. Nurse Practitioners can prescribe all medication needed without a Doctor on site such as: Suboxone for opioid withdrawal, Vallum for seizures or any other type of medication required. All detox rooms are equipped with Queen size beds and a private bathroom to ensure privacy and comfort.

Clients are required to stay in their private Stabilization/Detox room for 24 hours or as long as they need to become fully stabilized. Even if someone comes to GreeneStone sober we still require them to stay in Stabilization for 24 hours. It is required that all incoming Clients surrender their electronic devices while in the Stabilization/Detox unit and their device will be stored in our Front Office until moved into their private residency.

Once discharged from Stabilization/Detox the resident will settle into their private residency and start program. See Accommodations for more information.

TRAUMA AND OCCUPATIONAL STRESS INJURIES

Inpatient trauma and occupational stress injury (OSI) treatment at GreeneStone Muskoka addresses the mental and emotional challenges that individuals face after undergoing a traumatic experience. Our goal is to provide individuals with insights into the way they are dealing with their trauma as well as the tools they need to self-regulate and manage their trauma symptoms.

We serve active military personnel, veterans, and the adult (24+) civilian population at our 43-acre residential facility. Our trauma treatment program is suitable for many different types of trauma and abuses, including:

  • PTSD
  • Childhood trauma
  • Emotional trauma
  • Physical trauma
  • Sexual trauma
  • Operational stress injury (OSI)
  • Work-related stress
  • Childhood abuse
  • Physical abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Emotional abuse

We use many different types of evidence-based best practices to help residents address their trauma and regain control over their lives. We focus on the whole person and not just the trauma. Each treatment program is customized to the individual to best meet their specific needs and challenges.

Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) therapy is used as a therapeutic technique performed by Sue McMullen our trauma therapist. Individuals are taught how to recognize potential triggers for a negative emotional reaction and can then devise new ways for coping during a session. TIR may also be helpful for the treatment of addiction, which is a brain disease that may often be rooted in emotional distress. Google TIR therapy to learn more about this therapeutic technique.

We do not force residents to relive their trauma as a way to recover. The focus of our trauma treatment is to help residents improve their daily functioning and quality of life by providing them with the support and insights they need to rediscover themselves and their existing strengths.

If trauma is affecting your ability to function in your day-to-day life, it’s time to seek help from GreeneStone. Call 1-844-955-5501 or contact us online to arrange a private, confidential assessment or to learn more about our trauma treatment program.
