Why it’s the perfect time to start your recovery journey this holiday

The holiday season is a difficult time of year for those experiencing substance use disorder and addiction. The family gatherings, celebrations (often with alcohol) and social obligations that come with the season can actually lead to anxiety and stress. Many Canadians will also feel that the dark winter months are isolating, and may find themselves susceptible for addiction to take hold. You can choose to avoid the stress this holiday, and make a positive change for the New Year!

At GreeneStone Centre for Recovery, we offer an escape from holiday troubles at our beautiful centre on Lake Muskoka. You’ll find the space to recover and an amazing community of peers and staff to support you.

Here’s why starting inpatient rehab over the holidays is the best gift to give yourself!

A time away from triggers and temptation

During the holidays, people with problem substance use and addiction may find that parties and gatherings are a source of stress, anxiety, and possible harm. You may wish to avoid them altogether, but it can be a lose-lose situation if you feel like you’re letting friends and family down. Navigating holiday festivities is challenging when you’re struggling with addiction, but it doesn’t have to be!

Consider some time away this holiday to focus on yourself and your wellbeing. With 30+ days in a safe and supportive environment, you can avoid difficult situations and find the time and space to heal. Your friends and family will be glad to know that you’ve made the choice to get better!

Avoid the family drama

While many people look forward to gathering with family over the holidays, not all of us have the healthiest relationships. If you’re struggling with problem substance use and addiction, one deeply annoying comment from your least favourite relative can leave you full of negativity, self-doubt, and lead you to seek out your temporary escape of choice.

If you’re ready for recovery, why not avoid all that trouble this holiday? When you enter our inpatient addiction treatment program, you’re joining a community of peers in recovery, so you don’t have to feel alone in your journey.

Finally finding time for you

It can be hard to find the time to focus on yourself, but the holiday season can often mean a slower pace, including at work. That’s why entering inpatient addiction treatment over the holidays is the perfect time to start your recovery – you can take advantage of the slower season and spend time on your health without the worry of falling behind!

If you’ve been trying to figure out how to make time for recovery, take advantage this holiday!

Enjoy Muskoka tranquility

Leaving your regular surroundings and routine is a great way to learn and develop new habits. Our centre is located on the shore of Lake Muskoka, with a picturesque winter setting perfect for focusing on yourself and your recovery.

Enjoy well-balanced, delicious meals in our cozy “home away from home” this holiday. We’ll take care of the chores while providing everything you need to support you on your recovery journey.

How to know when to seek professional support

It can be hard to admit we need help, and many people with substance use disorder or addiction will struggle for years to quit by themselves with mixed results. If you’re experiencing some of the outcomes below, it might be time to consider professional treatment.

  1. Your substance use or other harmful behaviours are having a negative effect on your health.
  2. Your relationships are affected, whether it’s family, significant others, friends or work.
  3. You feel that you need the substance or behaviour to cope with mental health issues (anxiety, depression, trauma).
  4. You can’t stop despite trying multiple times.

What makes GreeneStone special?

GreeneStone is located in one of the most peaceful and naturally beautiful regions of Ontario. Nestled on the shore of Lake Muskoka, our well-appointed facility sits on 40 acres of naturally-forested land, with walking and hiking trails, two ponds and fire pits circled with Muskoka chairs. Our wide range of amenities support health and wellness, with a fully equipped gym and cardio room, two pools, basketball and tennis courts and a yoga studio.

Each of our 26 private guest rooms are appointed with a private bathroom and queen-size bed. They are clean and bright with large windows and plenty of room for storage. Our small community creates a quiet, settled atmosphere, giving time for introspection and reflection.

We’re Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities Canada (CARF): the gold standard of excellence in inpatient addiction treatment. This serves as proof of our commitment to support your recovery with the best, evidence-based interventions.

At GreeneStone we recognize that being completely disconnected from work is not always practical. That’s why we don’t take away devices when clients enter care, so that they can seek treatment while maintaining their work responsibilities. For patients traveling for treatment, we provide complimentary transportation from the airport to ensure a safe and easy connection with our centres.

GreeneStone is a safe space, welcoming all individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs during the holiday season. We hope we can make you feel at home, and will gladly incorporate your cultural traditions into our treatment environment.

You’ll also have continued support after graduating, with regular alumni meetings and continued touchpoints with your peers and counsellors.

GreeneStone is offering a reduced rate over the holidays! Contact us today to speak with our intake team about available financing options. We look forward to welcoming you into our recovery community!

Can’t get away? Try online treatment

The holidays are a great time to enter into recovery, but not everyone is able to set aside the time. That’s no problem! We offer a virtual addiction treatment program, providing the same structured treatment as well as some other added benefits.

  1. It’s more affordable than traditional inpatient rehab options.
  2. There’s more flexibility including part-time programs in the day or evening.
  3. You can access treatment from anywhere (with internet), so you can stay on program while visiting relatives or simply recover from the comfort of home.

Virtual treatment is available through our parent company, Canadian Addiction Treatment Centres. Want to know more? Speak with our intake team.

The best gift you can give is recovery

It can be very difficult deciding to seek treatment alone. Knowing there’s support from those who love you can make a huge difference. When your loved one is struggling with addiction, speak with them about inpatient rehab for addiction.

For those in recovery, the memory of choosing to start the journey is incredibly significant. Help your loved one make that choice by offering your support.
